The old threat of getting 'shipped off to Siberia' is more of a welcome invitation nowadays than a punishment. Completed in 1905, the Trans-Siberian railway has since become an ironically "hot" travel option.
This winter, the Great Canadian Travel Company is offering a special 14-day westbound trip from Vladivostok to Moscow aboard the private Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express. The trip includes stops to enjoy sleigh-rides, choir performances and ice-fishing. There will also be educational lectures with John Simpson, the BBC's World Affairs Editor, who will be onboard for the entire journey.
The train will travel through Mongolia and Irkutsk, Siberia. Both stops include cultural excursions such as lunch Mongol style and a folk concert. Other stops include Novosibirsk and Vladimir. The journey ends in Moscow.
Prices star at $7,995 per person (twin-share), which includes off-trail excursions, accommodations and meals, porterage, a general drink allowance with lunch and dinner, and taxes.
