All Nippon Airways

Want to know the secret to avoiding jetlag on a trip to Tokyo? Fly business class on All Nippon Airways. We took a 15-hour nonstop flight from New York recently and are still raving about the experience.

Top Pour: We were greeted with a glass of Champagne, which turned out to be an endless flow—and this was no Korbel; the flight attendants were armed with chilled bottles of Drappier Carte Blanche Brut. Wine selections are just as good: a Lockwood Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, for one. All Nippon also offers a Chardonnay, Reisling Kabinett and a Shiraz. Three flight attendants serve the business-class section at all times, waiting on passengers hand and foot.

Entertainment is key on any flight and All Nippon is right on target here. The TV console is inside the seat’s armrest and can be adjusted left or right—great for preventing glare.

At dinnertime, we chose the pan-fried beef tenderloin with morello cherry sauce that was more Ruth’s Chris than Ponderosa. While our American tastes kicked in for breakfast, we opted for a traditional bowl of rice topped with Japanese-style barbecued pork tenderloin. It beat Cheerios and gave us the jolt of energy we needed to start the day off right. The Korean-style marinated vegetables and fresh-fruit cocktail put the finishing touches on this hearty meal. A cup of orange juice, some coffee and we were ready to tackle Tokyo.
